Simon Thomas will never forget the day when God became ‘very real’

Former Blue Peter presenter turned Sky Sports News anchor Simon Thomas has revealed how a near-death experience as a child led him to faith in Jesus.

Avid Norwich City fan Thomas, 42, was seven when he was almost killed by a lightning strike, causing him to turn to faith.

He said: “It was a defining moment for me for a number of reasons. That to me was the moment that God and my faith became very real.

‘’Some people no doubt will read this story and think it was nothing more than an amazing slice of luck, but for me it was nothing of the sort.

“There have been many times down the years when life has been tough and I’ve found it hard, but I’ve never walked away from my faith and have often come back to that moment all those years ago when God became very real.

“You can run as far away as you like, you can mess up many times, which I have, but God will never leave you.’’

Thomas joined the presenting team of the CBBC flagship shop Blue Peter in 1999 and would spend six years there, before heading into the world of sport with broadcasting giants Sky Sports.
