Driver thrown clear after train ploughs into motor
The driver of this car walked away with four minor scratches – after being ploughed into by a 50mph passenger train.
Aravinda Tissera believes God intervened and saved his life when the door of his car opened and he fell at the side of the road during the incident, in his hometown of Jaela, Sri Lanka.
He told New Life: “I am here today because of Jesus. I was picking my wife up from church and I had to drive over a train crossing. The gate was open so I assumed it was safe to go and I didn’t see the train coming from my left.
“The train smashed into the car, flung it 15 metres and everyone assumed I was dead.
“But during the crash it was as if someone opened my door. I felt the presence of God as if I was not alone in that car and I fell to the side safely.
“People rushed to the scene and were asking for the driver, so I suddenly stood up and said it was me. They took me to hospital, checked my body and were adamant that nothing was wrong. They couldn’t believe I’d been hit by a train. They discharged me with no injuries, I had just a few scratches.”
Aravinda, a pastor at the nearby Calvary Centre Church, is adamant God saved him.
He added: “I cried out, ‘God, help me!’, and he didn’t let me down. I knew God was with me, I didn’t see anyone, but I know somebody was there, looking out for me. The train was damaged, my car was ruined but I was completely fine.
“People have come to see me after the incident and admitted that my God must have saved me. This has given me extra strength to preach the gospel.”
