London 2012 Paralympic Games silver medallist Stefanie Reid has explained how God answered her prayers and gave her a second chance.

The New Zealand-born star, of Scottish and English parentage, competed in the 2008 Beijing games for Canada, picking up bronze in the 200m, before switching al- legiance to Team GB in 2010 and collecting a long jump silver in 2012.

Growing up as a sports-mad youngster in Toronto, Reid played all kinds of sports, but had to have her life saved when she was 16 via the amputation of her foot and right leg after a boating accident.

“Why would God bless me with a passion and ability for sport, only to take it away?” she asks. “How was I still going to be me?”

But God answered her prayers and showed her that she did not need to give up her competitive spirit.

“God revealed to me that he put my drive and love for competition in me for a reason. I didn’t need to change, I just needed to apply it in a different way.

“I couldn’t believe that God, after all that had happened, would have brought me this far. We serve a mighty God!”
