‘It’s a miracle I’m still alive,’ says Michelle Warren after her incredible journey
Michelle Warren should be dead. She was involved in a severe car accident as a young adult, losing her memory for a day and walking with crutches. She’s also had cancer but has survived and today is reaching more than 500 orphans in the slums of Kenya.
Michelle, 46, has driven lorries across Europe distributing aid and quit her job as a nurse to focus on full-time ministry.
Michelle, who attends Elim’s Gateway Church in Pontypridd and is the Director and Founder of Lighthouse of God Ministries, says it’s a miracle she’s alive.
She explains how her journey to becoming a missionary started soon after a near-fatal accident involving a lorry when she was 21.
“I was driving down a hill in Swindon,” she recalls. “I stopped at the roundabout because there was a car coming, and a lorry behind me didn’t stop and it shunted me forward across in front of the white car and I nearly went down onto the motorway. I was very close to dying.
“I remember the ambulance came, and I heard them speaking as they came towards the car, ‘Oh there’s no one alive in there, it’s not worth hurrying for this one.’ I hadn’t been a Christian for that long, but believe me I shouted, ‘Get me out of here, I am alive!’
“The seat had come away from the bottom of the car and tipped upwards, so my knees and my legs had gone up here and my head was down, and it was like a squashed tin, there were nothing left of the car, and I was trapped inside. They couldn’t get me out of there until the fire brigade came. I believe that God put his hand on me to keep me alive.”
