Her official title is Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.
Former SNP leader Alex Salmond once referred to her as, Elizabeth, Queen of Scots, while on the Channel Islands, she is formally addressed as the Duke of Normandy.
In her role, the Queen is often photographed at grand services in St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, or attending prayers at civic events.
But away from the pomp and circumstance, the Queen is known to have a strong, personal faith in Jesus which has been central to her 63-year reign – the longest of any British monarch in history.
To mark the Queen’s 90th birthday, The Bible Society has joined forces with HOPE and the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity to publish a book about her Christian faith.
Called ‘The Servant Queen And The King She Serves’, this beautifully-illustrated short book uses the Queen’s own words to describe her faith in God.
A 12-page version for schools is being made available by Scripture Union.
Since her coronation in 1953, the Queen has lived through everything from rationing to moon landings. She’s worked with 12 Prime Ministers, received 3.5 million items of correspondence and owned 30 corgis.
In all that change, the Queen’s faith has remained constant. The Servant Queen And The King She Serves explores and celebrates the place of Her Majesty’s Christian faith in the context of her formal role, public ceremony, personal and family life, in times of celebration and in the face of adversity.
