The Holy Spirit appears where you least expect him
Having a vision of Christ during a lingerie photo shoot may not be what you would expect. But if there is one thing the Bible makes plain, it is that God runs with a completely different agenda to ours.
Take Bethlehem, for example. I’ve been there and, trust me, there really were other places to choose for the birth of the Son of God. Or King David. When Samuel anointed him he was runt of the family that hadn’t even been invited to the party.
And this issue has some great examples of the Holy Spirit turning up where you would least expect him. Mark Stevens didn’t find Christ in church or at a prayer meeting; his heart was opened in a backslidden girl’s bedroom in London.
Deborah Armin had her wine and sleeping pills all ready to end it all, but she was arrested by hearing Joyce Meyer praying on TV, and suddenly her empty world was flooded with the joy of the Lord.
And, of course, Leah Darrow found herself face to face with her Lord – in skimpy clothes at a fashion shoot. No words were needed, and she was never the same again.
But we dare not presume on the grace of God. These accounts of how the Lord met people dramatically, right at the very point of their desperate need, must not make us think that is how he chooses to operate. Not at all. In fact, God has given us his Word to help us govern our lives.
But the Bible is useless to us if we don’t read it, as RT Kendall points out. The Word of God really is required daily reading if you want the Lord to move in your life, and from personal experience over many years I can wholeheartedly recommend Robert Murray McCheyne’s Bible reading guide that RT mentions in his excellent article.
