A silversmith in Northern Ireland has launched a jewellery business to raise money for Christians who are persecuted for their faith.
Christine Williams set up Sea Secrets, a range of jewellery made of sterling silver and local sea glass, with all profits going to support the work of Christian charity Open Doors.
Since beginning in November, she has raised £300.
“With sea glass, I often think the most beautiful pieces are the ones that have been knocked about longest and hardest. That’s so true of people who have suffered for the sake of Christ too,” said Christine, who is from Ballycastle.
The “secret” name, she added, came from the fact that many of the people Open Doors supports are Christians who are forced to hide their faith.
Sea Secrets is part of New Creations NI, a website collaboration of Christian artists and crafters run by Christine. It includes her other business, Grandma’s Spoons, and leather and fabric businesses which support Christian charities including MAF and Silk Road Ministries.
The collection can be viewed at www.artisanmarket.online/collections/sea-secrets and is currently made up of blue and green sea glass necklaces in handcrafted, sterling silver nets. The unique nature of every piece of sea glass is maintained in the design.
