Letitia’s back and sharing her faith

Hollywood star Letitia Wright is back on set and using her fame to share her faith.

The actress, best known as Shuri in the Black Panther film series, was injured last August while working on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The British star, 28, was thought to have suffered only minor injuries in the stunt accident, but was later revealed to have a “critical shoulder fracture and a concussion with severe side effects”.

Filming had to be suspended for months, but has now resumed, giving Wright the perfect chance to return to what she sees as her most important role: speaking about Jesus.

She told The Independent: “I’m sharing my truth because I probably wouldn’t be alive right now if it wasn’t for Jesus; I probably wouldn’t have been able to cope.

“And if someone saves you and brings light and love to your life, you want to share that. You don’t want to hide it.

“I’ve had people tell me, ‘Hey, you should stop talking about Jesus.’ But there will always be pressures to keep things private that the world may not agree with. I’m not trying to force anything on anyone.”

She added: “The world is so fickle and there’s not much you can really put your hope in to make you feel whole. Even now I’m going through a new transformative stage of my life with understanding who I am, but with God you can really just get through these situations. It’s been beautiful to have my faith in Jesus, which is worth more than anything.”

Worth more than her glittering career, for sure, which the BAFTA winner once planned to abandon in favour of her faith. She feared having to act in ‘immoral’ scenes.

“When I first became a Christian, I said, ‘I’m never acting again. I’m done’,” she told movieguide. “[But] God was speaking to me and said, ‘This is your talent; it’s what you’re meant to do.’”

So, the Guyana-born actress continued in the profession that offered the perfect platform to share her faith, while sticking to her Christian principles.

“Anything I attach myself to needs to have a purpose,” she explains. “And if it feels like a red light in any way, I don’t do it.”

The ‘red light’ did shine when Wright disappeared from social media, complaining of being ‘cancelled’, before gaining a new perspective.

“It’s been brilliant,” she said of her self-imposed exile from Twitter and Instagram. “I’ve been able to go away and educate myself, read books and connect with my family.

“There’s not been this pressure of expectation. Everyone should just step away from social media.”
