Aspire asked Sue Nicholls who runs the women’s ministry at CLC Elim, Birmingham, about the great events they put on.

I have been involved in running the women’s meetings for over 20 years at Christian Life Church in Selly Oak, Birmingham. We have such a great team of willing volunteers, and it has been a joy and privilege to serve the ladies there and to see how they have grown in their faith and ministries.

We meet once a quarter for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning and each meeting involves worship, food, a speaker and ministry. We always have a little gift or treat for attendees too. Most meetings involve personal testimony from our ladies, and it’s so good to hear what God is doing.

It’s also such a blessing to welcome our youth and young adults to our meetings. We don’t set an age limit and want to encourage our young girls to come along. The young adults also regularly lead worship for us.

We have invited pastors’ wives and speakers from numerous churches, as well as using people from our own church. Each speaker we have had has spoken words of confidence, strength and encouragement over us.

We are a multi-national church, so have recently decided to celebrate this by asking different cultural groups to take over the meeting, from the worship and testimony to the food choices.

We don’t run our meetings as a ‘tea and sympathy’ group, rather a place for us to be empowered by God’s Word, to learn how to host the presence of God and how to move in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We have recently welcomed Simon and Jane Foster back to CLC as our new pastors. Our journey going forward is a great adventure in exploring the vastness and greatness of the Holy Spirit, and at our recent summer meeting Simon led a School of the Holy Spirit.

Also, during autumn we take nearly 100 of our women to the Dare Conference run by Elim Northampton which has been a source of great teaching and encouragement to us all.

We have such an amazing group of ladies in our church and are looking forward to seeing what God has in store for us as we move forward together.
