Visitors to a US church could have been forgiven for doing a double-take when tough-guy actor Mr T gave the sermon.

He’s not your regular vicar, but the iconic 80s star spoke on ‘Doubting Thomas’ at Cosmopolitan Community Church in Chicago when asked to deliver the message at his home church for the first time.

Mr T, most famous for his role as BA Baracus in The A-Team, has preached at other churches, but admitted to being nervous about his debut message at his Illinois place of worship.

He tweeted: “Believe it or not I always get butterflies before I preach in church. It’s a great honour and an awesome responsibility which I don’t take lightly.”

Mr T, real name Laurence Tureaud, became a Christian in 2017 while on Dancing With the Stars, when he revealed he’d relied on God during a battle with cancer.

“I called on God. I said, ‘God, give me strength to do your will.’ That’s when it really hit me: What’s really real? My faith in God, that was real, because only God could save me.”

He’s since used his massive Twitter following to spread the gospel alongside encouraging Covid vaccine take-up.

“We are fighting two contagious deadly virus[es]! One is Covid-19 and the other is hate!” he tweeted. “We got vaccinations for Covid and the love of God for all the haters!

“The vaccine works when it’s injected into our arm! The love of God works when you invite him into your heart!”
