Author Pete Greig is on a quest to make hearing from God the new normal.
Greig, founder of a global prayer movement, a religious order and the writer behind many books, thinks we should all regularly hear from the Almighty. In fact, he thinks it’s the path to a spiritual breakthrough.
“Hearing God is a mark of healthy and fulfilled humanity,” says Greig. “Many of the greatest and most intelligent people who have ever lived have unashamedly talked about hearing the voice of God – Martin Luther King, Florence Nightingale, Abraham Lincoln, Sojourner Truth.
“Learning to hear God is the single most important thing you will ever learn to do. No exaggeration. It’s the key to spiritual growth, it’s the key to guidance, it’s the key to having a real conversational relationship with God.”
It’s discussed in detail in his new book, How to Hear God.
“The issue of hearing God is not a matter of theology, but psychology,” he says. “There is no debate theologically that God speaks – Genesis 1, he created the universe by speaking; John 1, Jesus is the Word of God.
“The question is, are we hearing? If we’re not, we tend to say it’s because God’s not speaking, but it’s probably more to do with our psychology: how are our neural pathways wired? How are we built to process data?”
