Lucas Black’s prayer was massive, and God answered with a heaven-sent film role.
Sure, the star of The Fast and Furious franchise and NCIS: New Orleans made the everyday prayer requests like health and provision for him and his family, but he had faith God could provide so much more – so asked for a Hollywood part too.
Cue the 39-year-old father-of-three’s starring role in Legacy Peak which, for a Christian actor, could be in the dictionary under “tailor-made”.
“It was an answered prayer, for me and my family just to have something come to us like this. God orchestrated the whole thing,” he told the Christian Post. “[I’m] super blessed to be a part of it.
“We were praying what the next step was going to be. I read it, my wife read it, and she comes to me with tears in her eyes and says, ‘I don’t know why you wouldn’t be a part of this project.’”
The part vindicated his decision to leave NCIS: New Orleans after 125 episodes “to spend more time with family” and be with his “heavenly father”.
“There were plenty of days where I would go to work and they would still be asleep, and I would come home and they’d be already in bed,” Black said. “The first three seasons, I’d be working 70 hours a week. It can be really destructive to families’ lives and your relationship with others.”
There’s another reason, apart from improving his family life, that Black sees the Legacy Peak role as an answer to prayer.
“There’s an attack (in the US) right now on Christian values, on family values,” he said. “So, this is kind of our way of battling our culture.
“I think we need to really focus and be intentional about what we allow to be seen on our screens in our homes for our family. We really need to fight for our families and our children, so we need to be intentional about what’s coming through the television screen, the computer screen and the phone.”
Legacy Peak, says Black, will help redress that balance.
“The message is going to empower families and Christians and uplift them.
“It’s one that really sheds a good light on fathers. It shows the need for a good earthly father. It shows how we can find our fulfilment and love from our heavenly father, and it really is one that’s going to empower the nuclear family, and especially fathers out there.
“I just encourage you to see it because we’re fighting this battle together. We’ve got to stand strong in faith and as Christians and fight for our families.”
