The ‘Coffree Conqueror Challenge’ is a personal detox with a difference.

The annual fundraising challenge from Kettering-based, national drug education charity, Hope UK, invites participants to get sponsored to give up drinking coffee for the whole month of October. Alternatively, people can donate the money they will save by not drinking coffee during the month. By doing so, they will be supporting Hope UK in its mission to help young people lead drug-free lives.

Hope UK’s Coffree Conqueror Challenge, now in its fourth year, shines a spotlight on some of the issues affecting children and young people in the UK today – recently published data from the NHS* highlights the rise in vaping amongst 11-15 year olds: up from 6% in 2018 to 9% in 2021, with around one in five teenage girls now vaping. The easy availability of drugs online, especially via social media sites, shows how important it is that young people receive high-quality, effective education that will enable them to make healthy choices as they grow to adulthood.

By taking part in the challenge, participants will save money that they would otherwise have spent on endless cups of coffee. They may also experience health benefits from consuming zero caffeine. But more importantly they will raise vital funds to support Hope UK in its mission to enable many more young people to choose drug-free lives:
• £9 will support the cost of delivering a drug education session to one young person;
• £14 will pay for a set of drug samples (fake!) for Hope UK to educate parents, youth workers, teachers and other adults caring for young people;
• £29 will pay for a handbook with over 100 activities for Hope UK’s trained volunteers to use when planning a drug education session.

To sign up for the Coffree Conqueror Challenge, participants should visit Hope UK’s dedicated web page for full details. During the course of the challenge, people are invited to share their highs and lows on Hope UK’s social media pages, as part of the Coffree Conqueror Challenge community of fellow caffeine-abstainers! There are also plenty of tips on how to survive your caffeine-free month and stay well and sane in the process.
