A church in Leicester is celebrating the launch of its blossoming Romanian congregation.

Their service at Leicester Elim started after a growing number of Romanians joined the church’s English-speaking services on Sunday mornings.

Now, the new Romanian-language congregation attracts up to 60 people on Sunday afternoons with its mix of worship and preaching.

“The group began because a young Romanian couple at the church started to invite more and more of their friends to our morning service,” said Leicester Elim pastor Dave Holmes.

“Eventually they filled three rows, so I talked to them about running their own service.

“We’re in an incredibly multicultural area and there are a good number of Romanians living nearby so we want to see this group grow and develop, and to empower them to minister to their community.

“They still want to be part of the main church though, and many also still come on Sunday mornings.”
