American actor Danica McKellar has gone public with her new Christian faith – which all started with a question about forgiveness and a Bible gift from a fellow acting star.

McKellar, 47, best known as Winnie Cooper in The Wonder Years and now as the voice of Judy Jetson in The Jetsons, took to Instagram to praise her vocal Christian friend Candace Cameron Bure (see story on this page) for the Bible gift.

Bure, star of Full House and Fuller House, has been friends with McKellar since they acted on The Wonder Years together. She sent the Bible and invited McKellar to church after being questioned on one of Christianity’s most fundamental issues.

McKellar posted: “I went live today to share the journey I’ve recently embarked on… I have so much love in my heart I just had to share what I’m experiencing.

“I’m experiencing a relationship with God and Jesus that I’ve never had before, and it feels miraculous. And it all started one evening when I was struggling with the idea of forgiveness and DM’d my good friend @candacecbure about a passage from the Bible she had read on her instastories, and then she sent me a Bible, and invited me to church… I am wishing all of you the love & freedom I feel in my heart”.

McKellar grew up with a Christian father and went to church services, but never had a personal relationship with Jesus.

She told her 639,000 Instagram followers: “I have not had much of a Bible education in my life, a little bit here and there, but it’s not part of how I was raised.

“Starting in childhood, I had been made aware of all the hypocrisy in the various religions of Christianity, it being used for evil, power & control throughout history, and that had definitely biased me.

“But that’s just people, that doesn’t represent God’s actual love for us.”

That love has been reflected in the warmth of her fellow Christians, with McKellar posting: “I have been going to church and finding a lot of amazing love and peace and purpose, and it’s blowing my mind.

“I always had this other preconceived notion of what that was when people talked about Jesus and the Lord, I just didn’t quite get it, I feel a lot of joy in my heart.

“Omnipresent love is there for you whenever you want it, whenever you’re ready.”

McKellar is also an author and maths coach, writing six mathematics books and home-schooling son Draco.
