The cost of living crisis means it will be a challenging Christmas for many, but stories of how God helped others in the past can have a powerful impact today, writes Gregory Smith of the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer.
If you pay any attention to the news, you’ll know how easy it is to fall prey to the doom and gloom displayed every day. As darkness seems to settle in for the long haul, our world needs the light we as Christians carry. It needs the hope of Jesus.
At Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer we believe there’s never been a more important time for Christians to join together to make hope visible. Earlier this year, construction began on the access road leading to the site where Eternal Wall will be built. This is a tremendous milestone, as it marks the beginning of construction.
It’s been 18 years since Richard Gamble felt God give him the vision for this Christian landmark and at long last there is something physical to show for it.
It has been an exhilarating (and often challenging) journey, saturated with answered prayers and beautiful moments of God working on our behalf.
We expect the road to be built by February 2023, when we will be able to begin cutting the ground on the land itself. We then anticipate that in early 2025 a new Christian landmark will stand in the heart of our nation, declaring that Jesus is alive and that he hears and answers prayer today.
There have been unique difficulties presented by pioneering a ground-breaking vision in the midst of Brexit, the Covid pandemic and now a cost of living crisis, but these are perfect examples of why a visible landmark filled with one million answered prayers is needed more than ever.
The darkness of the past few years is pervasive, yet we are gathering countless stories of individual encounters with the God who answers – stories of hope where people in desperate need have cried out to Jesus and seen him answer. Whether it is in the way we expected or not, the sheer significance of the fact that the Creator of the universe not only hears our cries but steps into our lives is utterly astounding. We must never stop sharing these stories.
Each answered prayer contains the power to restore faith and bring the balm of hope to weary hearts. They are charged with the power to make hope visible, illuminating the darkest situations.
Revelation 12:11 tells us, “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” When someone hears a story of Jesus stepping into a situation similar to their own, the embers of their faith can be reignited. Suddenly the impossible becomes possible; the God who has done it once can do it again.
Christmas is always an expensive time of year, but now more than ever you may be feeling the strain. Your heart may be weighed down by figures that simply don’t add up. Do not fear: Jesus is our provider, and here are two wonderful answered prayers of provision from Christmases gone by to give you fresh hope.
Can you feel your hope rising? Suddenly the cost of living crisis seems a little less scary as we refocus our eyes on Jesus and remember that if he has done it once, he can do it again.
Hope is a powerful weapon, and that’s why we are gathering one million answered prayers from all walks of life, building the world’s largest database of hope stories. Our mission is to raise up a nation of storytellers equipped with the truth that answered prayer is a gift, ready to see the goodness of God revealed in the lives of those around them.
This Christmas, let’s remember to share our stories of God’s goodness with our families and loved ones, as we celebrate the birth of the God who answers, the one in whose name “the nations will put their hope” (Matthew 12:21).
